Remembering Slain Gay Puerto Rican Teen Steven Mercado

New Yorkers gathered to stand up against hate and anti-LGBT violence Sunday Nov. 22, 2009 at Pier 45 on the West side of Manhattan -- a week after gay 19 year-old Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado was brutally murdered in an anti-gay attack in Puerto Rico.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Councilman-elect Daniel Drumm -- both openly gay -- spoke along with others from New York's LGBT and Latino communities.
